News and Announcements
- The California Archaeological Site Stewardship Program (CASSP) will offer a volunteer training workshop in the City of Chatsworth for the Angeles District of California State Parks on January 17-18, 2009. CASSP is an SCA program that trains and supports volunteers to regularly visit, observe, and report on the conditions of their assigned archaeological sites on public lands. Volunteers work under the supervision of archaeologists employed by the public land agencies with the sites. Anyone with a sincere interest in preserving cultural resources, and over the age of 18, is invited to participate in CASSP. The cost of the workshop is $25, payable at the door. Space is limited to 25 participants, and reservations are required. Contact Beth Padon (562-431-0300 or bpadon@discoveryworks.com) or visit the CASSP web site for more information.
- In 2005, the SCA Executive Board granted the request of the SCA Native American Programs Committee (NAPC) to establish the California Indian Sponsorship Program designed to raise monies, establish selection criteria, and offer funding to California Indians wishing to attend and participate in the SCA Annual Meeting. Since 2006 the NAPC has funded 10 California Indians' attendance at the Annual Meetings.
The SCA NAPC is proud to announce sponsorships offered to California Indians interested in attending the SCA Annual Meeting in Modesto on March 12-15, 2009. Click here to download the flyer.
