We are seeking persons to fill several key positions including Writer/Analyst. This position requires report writing, assisting development of research designs and field testing methods, preparing proposals, project planning, help with data analysis, writing and editing archaeological reports, and performing client and stakeholder consultations where necessary. Seasonal Archaeologist CA State Parks Ocotillo Wells District
The Ocotillo Wells District is looking for a seasonal archaeologist to assist with the cultural resource inventory of Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA), Heber Dunes SVRA and the Freeman Property. The position includes archaeological survey, monitoring, and excavation work as well as office and lab work.
Duties of the position includes archaeological excavation, site survey & recordation, preparation of site record forms, processing excavated collections, cataloging, monitoring, assistance in map production using GIS equipment and ArcMap (some training is available), and other duties.

On-call Archaeologist ICF International
ICF International is actively seeking on-call (temporary, part-time) archaeologists to work from either our San Diego or Los Angeles offices. Field work will be conducted in the general southern California region, although there may be opportunities to work in other areas of California or the western United States.
Duties will include survey, excavation, and construction monitoring, as well as other field, office, or laboratory tasks as assigned. Ability to conduct fieldwork and out-of-town travel is required. This individual will assist senior archaeologists in field and lab work and preparation of technical reports and environmental documents.
The position requires a B.A. or an M.A. in anthropology (emphasis in archaeology) and at least 2-4 years of experience. Candidates must be able to demonstrate at least one year of field experience in archaeological survey and reconnaissance. Knowledge of computers and GPS equipment is critical. Background in prehistoric archaeology required; additional experience in historic archaeology is a plus, as is prior experience in California, Alaska, Nevada, Utah, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, or Wyoming. Position may require knowledge of artifact analysis, keeping of field notes and records, and writing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills is a plus, as is an understanding of Section 106, and CEQA and NEPA as it pertains to cultural resources.

Seasonal Archaeologist CA State Parks Southern Service Center
The Southern Service Center is a multidisciplinary team that conducts work throughout southern California for California State Parks. Seasonal archaeologist positions currently exist at the Southern Service Center office in San Diego.
Duties of the positions include archaeological excavation, site survey and recordation, construction monitoring, preparation of site record forms, processing excavated collections, cataloging artifacts, assistance in map production using GIS equipment and ArcMap (some training is available), report writing, and other tasks.

Field Technicians PBS&J
PBS&J has a need for field technicians in their Sacramento and San Bernardino offices. These are part-time on-call temporary positions. Job duties include participating in archaeological surveys and excavations, keeping accurate field notes, completing accurate paperwork, and entering data into databases. The candidate may also be required to write sections of cultural resource management reports. This position will work closely with staff as well as other PBS&J offices.
The candidate must possess a B.A. or B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology or closely related field and have successfully completed an intensive 4 - 6 week archaeological field school. The candidate must be detail-oriented and have good analytical, computer, writing and communication skills.

compliance projects and programs within the Biological & Archaeological

Supervisory Architectural Historian or Archeologist Bureau of Reclamation

Senior Cultural Resources Specialist PG&E

The Cultural Resources Specialist is responsible for ensuring operational impacts to the environment are minimized and/or eliminated. The Cultural Resources Specialist is an interface between PG&E and state and federal agencies as well as interested stakeholders and Non-Governmental Organizations for licensing and permitting proceedings associated with cultural resources. Job duties will include historic/archival records research; historic resource inventory and identification surveys, historic buildings documentation and significance assessments, photography, project feasibility planning, alternatives analysis, impact evaluations, and technical report writing to National Parks Service and U.S. Department of Interior standards. Other special historic preservation services may be required from time to time. A willingness to assist with fieldwork and document preparation in other related disciplines will be necessary.
A Master's degree in history, historic architecture, historic preservation or closely related field is preferred along with two or more years of professional experience performing cultural resource management and consulting for planning and compliance studies; a bachelor's degree in history, cultural geography, historic preservation, or architecture plus 5 years of professional cultural resource management and consulting experience may be considered; strong understanding of public history as it applies to federal (NEPA and NHPA) and state (CEQA) regulatory compliance is required. Tribal Archaeologist/NEPA Coordinator Pit River Tribe
The Tribe's archaeologist will be the project manager for the Tribe's Cultural Resources program. In general, the project manager will be responsible for the operations and continual development of the Cultural Resources program and Tribal Historic Preservation Office. The project manger will be responsible for coordinating the environmental review of the Tribal Housing, Roads, Casino, and Natural Resource projects, as well as coordinate review and comments of the federal, state, county, and special resource district environmental assessments.

About the Position: The Beckwourth Ranger District has a professional archaeologist position available. The employee will work with and report to the District Archeologist. The position will involve a combination of fieldwork and office work, involving both Section 106 (such as fuels, timber, and range) and Section 110 projects (including historic building restoration and working with volunteers). The fieldwork will emphasize survey, site recording, and site monitoring.

ECORP Consulting is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic individual to serve as Field Director for our southern California offices (full-time position). Responsibilities will include conducting and supervising field surveys and excavations, supervising field technicians, and preparation of technical reports and site records. Ability to work as a team member is a must. Good oral and written communication skills necessary. Archaeologist/Lab Manager Edwards Air Base
Our Archaeologist career path is your chance to be a member of our Cultural Resources Team. As Project Archaeologist/Lab Manager, you will be overseeing and coordinating day-to-day activities of the archaeology lab staff, perform quality assurance/quality control on the work conducted, assisting with technical reports, and other challenging tasks. You should be a self-motivated professional with a successful 5 to 10 year track record in Archaeology, 2 years of supervisory experience and collections management, and experience with California archaeology. A Master's Degree is preferred, but not required. You will have access to a great deal of resources to complete your tasks and help you grow personally as well as professionally with each project.
The Project Archaeologist/Lab Manager position will be onsite at Edwards Air Base, CA. The candidate should have clear and effective written and communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and federal clients. The ability to work in a desert environment is required as Edwards Air Base is located in the Western Mojave Desert.
U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret Clearance is required.
Our Project Archaeologists:
- Work with our Cultural Resources staff and client to determine scope and goals of projects
- Oversee and coordinate day-to-day activities of the archaeological staff as they process collections for analysis and curation, including data entry
- Perform quality assurance/quality control on the work conducted by the lab staff
- Carry out tasks in coordination with project leads
- Have experience analyzing both prehistoric and historic period artifacts
- Populate and maintain the artifact database and catalog
- Conduct independent research and contribute to reports
- Have good organization skills and are able to ensure that materials are processed efficiently to meet project needs
Basic Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field with a minimum five years professional experience in archaeology laboratory work, or Bachelors Degree’s in related field with a minimum of seven years professional experience
- Minimum two years supervisory experience and collections management

Archaeologist Edwards Air Base
Our Archaeologist career path is your chance to be a member of our Cultural Resources Team doing archaeological field work, conducting analyses of prehistoric and historic material culture, evaluating sites for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, and other challenging tasks. You will have access to a great deal of resources to complete your tasks and grow in skill. You should be a self-motivated professional with a successful 2 to 9 year track record in Archaeology, have a Bachelor’s Degree, and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally each project. This position will be onsite at Edwards Air Base, CA. Preferred candidates for this position will have experience completing archaeological site records (DPR 523 forms) and familiarity with the Section 106 process, using GPS equipment and GIS software.
Our Archaeologists:
- Work with our Cultural Resources staff and client to determine scope and goals of projects
- Conduct field work, lab work, site excavation, site recordation, artifact processing, conducting analyses and cataloging of prehistoric and historic materials, and documentation
- Prepare state site record forms and contribute to technical reports
- Utilize GPS equipment and GIS software
- Additional Information: Must be US citizen to be able to obtain Security Clearance and pass company-mandated drug test
Basic Qualifications:

Field Technicians and Crew Chiefs Applied EarthWorks, Inc.
Applied EarthWorks, Inc. is requesting resumes to fill various project positions out of the Hemet Southern California Office, the San Luis Obispo Central California Coast Office, and the Fresno Central California Office. Positions include Field Technicians for Phase I surveys and Phase II testing investigations in California and Nevada. Crew Chiefs and Field Supervisors are also needed, especially for those individuals who can be permitted by the BLM in California and Nevada. Fieldwork in Nevada is immediate and will last until the snow flies; field work in California is anticipated to begin October 12 and will last for 15 days, other California work is more tentative and is dependent on award of several contracts.
Minimum Requirements for Field Technicians:
- Ability to walk up to 8 miles per day and carrying gear (including personal gear) up to 35 pounds
- 4+ years archaeological field experience, including prior participation in a reputable field school
- Ability to work independently and as a Team
- Experience using Trimble GeoXH GPS Units
- Clear and legible handwriting
- Good organizational skills
- A minimum of 8 months (cumulative) archaeological field experience in California and/or Nevada
Additional Requirements that May Enhance Consideration for Employment:
- Technical Writing skills a plus
- Geomorphological/Geoarchaeological field experience a plus
- Project Management skills a plus
- GIS experience a plus
Pay rates range from $17 to $24/hour depending on experience and position filled. Per Diem is generally $40/day for food, plus individual hotel room at cost. In some instances, GSA labor rates and per diem rates may apply.
